§ 2.12.020. Duties.

    It shall be the duty of the city attorney, when in the city and not providentially restrained, to attend all regular and adjourned sessions of the city commission and all special meetings of the commission, when duly notified of the time and place of such meetings.

    B.

    He shall give his opinion on legal questions affecting the administration of the city's business, verbally or in writing to the city commission, mayor or any commissioner whenever requested to do so.

    C.

    He shall advise, when applied to, any officer of the city as to the legal conduct of his office.

    D.

    He shall draft and pass upon the legality of all ordinances, contracts, bonds and other instruments affecting the interests of the city.

    E.

    The city attorney shall, by virtue of his office, represent the city as its attorney, in the prosecution of all cases in the municipal court, and in prosecuting and defending, as the case may require, all suits or actions in the state, supreme and district courts and in the federal courts, to which suit or action the city may be a party.
