§ 9.40.055. Use of retarders prohibited.

    It shall be unlawful to use a retarder, commonly known as a jake brake or compression brake on any truck, bus, automobile or other vehicle within the city. As used herein, "retarder" means any exhaust and/or engine device used as braking power to slow down a motor vehicle's rate of speed, that when activated creates noise through the vehicle's exhaust system. Retarder includes any exhaust or engine breaking device.

    B.

    This provision shall not restrict the use of a retarder in an emergency.
